Cathedral antiquities
John Britton's Cathedral Antiquities, issued in parts in London from 1814 by Longman and its partners, surveys English cathedrals for antiquaries, architects and subscribers through measured descriptions and engraved plates. The plates are line engravings, here tinted, showing exteriors from raking angles, vaulted interiors receding into shadow, and details of tracery, buttresses and porches, with tiny figures for scale; useful for Gothic ornament, arcade patterns and architectural silhouettes.
