Cathedrals and cloisters of the south of France
A two-volume traveller's account of Romanesque and Gothic churches in Provence, Languedoc and Aquitaine, written by Elise Whitlock Rose and published by Putnam in New York and London in 1906 for English-reading tourists and students of church architecture. The halftone photographs show nave aisles receding between heavy piers, apse and buttress exteriors, and cloister arcades, offering deep tonal blacks, strong arch silhouettes and worn masonry texture for collage or backgrounds.
