Cathedrals and cloisters of the south of France
A two-volume travel and architectural survey of southern French cathedrals, abbeys and cloisters written by Elise Whitlock Rose and published by Putnam in New York and London in 1906 for English-speaking travellers and church-architecture readers. The plates are halftone photographs: recessed Romanesque portals with carved voussoirs, long aisle perspectives receding into shadow, and distant town views, useful for stone texture, arch profiles and deep grey tonal backgrounds.
