Essays on art and collecting by Edmond Bonnaffé, with plates after Jules-Ferdinand Jacquemart, published in Paris by A. Quantin in 1878 for collectors and connoisseurs of decorative objects. The index pictures are wood-engraved chapter initials: a white letter J reserved against a dense stippled black block, framed by a thin border and flanked by scrolling stems, pointed leaves and carnation-like blooms, usable as drop caps, badges or tile-like ornament.
