The Celt, the Roman, and the Saxon : a history of the early inhabitants of Britain, down to the conversion of the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity ; illustrated by the ancient remains brought to light by recent research / by Thomas Wright ; with numerous engravings on wood
Thomas Wright's archaeological survey of Britain before and after the Roman occupation, first issued in the 1850s and reprinted in London in 1902 for antiquaries and general readers, with wood engravings of excavated finds. The cuts isolate single objects on blank grounds — amphorae, cinerary urns, stone coffins, fluted pottery fragments — in fine hatched line useful as stock silhouettes, texture studies, and ornament borders.
