Cham
An album of caricatures by Cham (Amédée de Noé) issued in Paris by the satirical daily Le Charivari in 1853, gathering his newspaper cartoons for a general readership of the July Monarchy and Second Empire. The 740 wood-engraved scenes are loose pen-line vignettes of two or three figures set against blank or lightly hatched grounds, with cast shadows, exaggerated hats, coats and crinolines, and slapstick gesture; useful for cutout figures, period costume silhouettes and rough hatching textures.
