Chardin

Chardin, Jean Baptiste Siméon, 1699-1779 · 1905 · Boston, Bates and Guild company · 19 pictures

A 1905 Boston monograph on the French painter Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin (1699-1779), issued by Bates and Guild for art students and collectors as part of its series of small painter studies. The twenty halftone plates reproduce his paintings in warm grey tones: domestic interiors with mothers and children at table, a boy drawing, portraits in bonnets and caps, and still lifes, all built from soft-edged figures emerging out of deep neutral backgrounds.
