Chess strategy
A chess instruction manual by Edward Lasker, published in Philadelphia by David McKay in 1921 for club and self-taught players. The plates are printed board diagrams: eight-by-eight grids with diagonally hatched dark squares and small solid silhouettes of kings, queens, knights, bishops, rooks and pawns, usable as ready-made grid patterns, hatching textures and compact piece icons.
