Chicago by day and night
A guidebook to Chicago's amusements and nightlife, written by Harold Richard Vynne and issued by Thomson and Zimmerman in 1892 for visitors arriving ahead of the World's Columbian Exposition. Pen-and-ink vignettes sit unframed in the text columns, showing single figures and small groups—a man lighting a cigar under a gas lamp, a bench trio with accordion, a woman in apron—drawn in loose hatching with heavy blacks usable as cut-out spot art.
