Children and gardens
Gertrude Jekyll wrote Children and gardens for young readers in 1908, published in London by Country Life and in New York by Scribner, teaching children how to plant, dig and play in a garden. Her own soft-focus halftone photographs show flower borders, stone walls with self-sown seedlings, cats, and shaded woodland paths, offering grainy tonal backdrops and plant silhouettes.
