Children's books and their illustrators
A survey of children's book illustration written by Gleeson White and issued in 1897 as a special number of The Studio in London, addressed to artists, publishers and collectors of illustrated books. The plates reproduce pen-and-ink line work by late-Victorian illustrators, with solid black grounds against unshaded white drapery, fairy-tale interiors, and decorative borders — useful for high-contrast line technique, crosshatched costume detail, and framed figure compositions.
