China; its history, arts and literature
A multivolume survey of Chinese history, art and literature written by Frank Brinkley, a British officer and journalist long resident in Japan, and issued in Boston by J. B. Millet in 1902 for English-speaking readers and collectors of Asian art. The plates are hand-tinted photographic halftones of villages, tiled rooftops, river crossings, temples on wooded slopes and long walled buildings, useful for muted colour washes over grey photographic tone and for aerial-angled townscape compositions.
