The church on the changing frontier; a study of the homesteader and his church
A 1922 social survey by Helen Olive Belknap, published in New York by George H. Doran, examining homesteading families and rural churches in Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico and South Dakota for church planners and reformers. Grainy halftone field photographs show sod and log houses, plank schoolhouse-chapels, fenced yards and open grassland horizons, useful for washed-out prairie textures and low, blocky vernacular building silhouettes.
