Secrets of the black art [microform] : a hand-book of magic, puzzles, &c. for parlour entertainments
A cheap Montreal handbook of 1886 teaching conjuring tricks, puzzles and parlour entertainments to amateur performers at home, printed with advertising for Lyman Sons & Co. druggists and Simon's rat and vermin killer bound into its pages. The plates are coarse letterpress: a decorated title page with checkerboard and urn cuts, ruled number-square puzzle diagrams, and bold condensed advertising type, useful for grid layouts, display lettering and nineteenth-century patent-medicine ephemera.
