Ciuitas veri, siue, Morum
Bartolommeo Del Bene's Latin allegorical poem mapping Aristotle's ethics onto a walled city, edited by Théodore Marcile with engravings by Thomas de Leu, printed in Paris by the Drouart brothers in 1609 for scholarly readers of emblem literature. Alongside architectural allegory plates sit square woodcut initials packed with acanthus scrolls, grotesque masks, urns and blossoms—usable as drop caps, spot ornaments or pattern sources.
