The civic ancestry of New York--City and State

Wilde, Edward S. (Edward Seymour), d. 1916 · 1913 · New York, author, at the Irving Press · 34 pictures

A privately printed heraldic and historical study by Edward S. Wilde, issued in New York in 1913 for antiquarians and civic historians tracing the Dutch and English arms behind the seals of New York city and state. The plates are photographs of wax seals and engraved medals showing quartered shields, crowned supporters, beaded borders and circular Latin legends, with cracked and chipped wax rendered in heavy grain — useful for shield shapes, lettering rings and worn relief texture.
