C. Ivlivs Caesar : sive Historiae imperatorvm Caesarvmqve romanorvm ex antiqvis nvmismatibvs restitvtae liber primvs; accessit C. Ivlii Caesaris vita et res gestae
A numismatic history of Julius Caesar and the Roman emperors, compiled and published by Hubert Goltzius at Bruges in 1563 for antiquaries and scholars reading Roman history through coins. Each plate sets twelve numbered coin roundels and small inscribed tablets on a dense stippled ground inside a ruled border with corner scrolls, giving designers profile heads, temples, animals, standards and legend lettering as ready-made medallion motifs.
