C. Ivlivs Caesar : sive Historiae imperatorvm Caesarvmqve romanorvm ex antiqvis nvmismatibvs restitvtae liber primvs; accessit C. Ivlii Caesaris vita et res gestae
A numismatic history of Julius Caesar and the Roman emperors published by the engraver Hubert Goltzius at Bruges in 1563, reconstructing imperial lives from ancient coins for antiquarians and collectors. Each plate sets twelve engraved coin faces in a grid on a stippled ground inside a strapwork border: profile heads in laurel, standing personifications with scales and cornucopias, elephants, altars, augural implements, and abbreviated Roman capital legends, with numerals and cartouches usable as frames, roundels, and lettering models.
