C. Ivlivs Caesar : sive Historiae imperatorvm Caesarvmqve romanorvm ex antiqvis nvmismatibvs restitvtae liber primvs; accessit C. Ivlii Caesaris vita et res gestae
A numismatic history of Julius Caesar and the Roman emperors compiled and printed by Hubert Goltzius at Bruges in 1563, addressed to antiquarians and collectors reading coins as historical evidence. Each plate arranges about a dozen coin faces as ruled grids of circular medallions with lettered edges, ribbon-scroll labels and stippled dark grounds, giving designers profile heads, eagles, altars, temples and corner scrollwork ready to lift as roundels or rule-and-panel layouts.
