Clariss. viri Dn. Andreae Alciati Emblematum libri duo : aucti & restituti, & perelegantibus figuris illustrati, cum succinctis commentariolis ...
A Latin edition of Andrea Alciati's emblem books, with commentaries by Claude Mignault and Sebastian Stockhamer, printed by Jean de Tournes at Geneva in 1639 for humanist and school readers. The 110 small rectangular woodcuts set single figures and small groups against hatched skies, hill towns, ruins and rocky ground, giving designers compact allegorical scenes, coarse parallel-line shading and emblem frames at a size suited to ornament and spot illustration.
