Coelvm philosophorvm, sev, De secretis naturae liber
A Latin alchemical treatise on distillation and the secrets of nature, compiled by Philipp Ulstad and printed by Johann Grüninger at Strasbourg in 1528 for physicians and apothecaries. The woodcuts pair geometrically constructed initials — letters drawn over circles, squares and diagonals, with hatched grounds — with small cuts of flasks, retorts and furnaces set in arched niches; useful for constructed letterforms and laboratory vessel silhouettes.
