Collection des Goncourt; dessins, aquarelles et pastels du 18e siècle
An illustrated catalogue of the Goncourt brothers' collection of eighteenth-century French drawings, watercolours and pastels, issued in Paris in 1897 after their deaths for collectors, dealers and print scholars. The plates are photomechanical reproductions of wash, sanguine, black chalk and pen studies—draped seated figures, crowded interior groups, ceiling-style figures on cloud—with visible paper tone, soft tonal bleeding and unfinished margins useful for loose figure sketches and neutral sepia and grey backgrounds.
