Cologne
A volume on Cologne by the French art historian Louis Réau, published in Paris by H. Laurens in 1908 as part of a series of illustrated art-topographies aimed at French travellers and students of medieval art. The plates are halftone photographs of Romanesque and Gothic churches — apses and towers seen from the street, nave arcades in raking light, a carved rood screen beneath an organ case — plus flattened views of painted vault and wall ornament that read as usable pattern.
