The colonial furniture of New England : A study of the domestic furniture in use in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries
A study of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century American domestic furniture by physician-antiquarian Irving Whitall Lyon, published in Boston and New York in 1892 for collectors, curators, and cabinetmakers. The plates are sepia photographs of single pieces shot against plain grounds, some tipped on their sides to show turned stretchers and leg joinery, yielding silhouettes of banister backs, pierced splats, ball-and-ring turnings, and carved crests that cut cleanly for use as spot illustrations.
