The comic alphabet
A hand-coloured comic alphabet by Percy Cruikshank, issued in London by Read & Co. in 1847 for children learning their letters through rhyme and caricature. Each plate pairs a large ornamental capital with a wide-mouthed figure in tailcoat or uniform reacting to it, drawn in etched outline and washed in red, yellow, green and blue over plain cream grounds.
