The comparison of gas engines and steam turbines as prime movers, and the design of a six hundred kilowatt steam turbine plant
An engineering thesis by Robert E. Doherty and Fred Cameron Pratt, submitted at the University of Illinois in 1909, comparing gas engines with steam turbines and working out a 600-kilowatt turbine plant for student and professional engineers. The plates are hand-lettered performance charts on ruled and squared graph paper: thermal-efficiency and brake-horsepower curves, twenty-four-hour load curves, and plant diagrams that supply grid textures, annotated line work, and technical lettering.
