Composing room management; a survey of present conditions and a discussion in detail of possible improvements
A 1918 trade manual on running a printing composing room, written by Dorr Kimball and published in Berkeley, California, for shop foremen and master printers. The illustrations are decorated initial letters in heavy black outline, each bold capital wound with oak leaves, twigs and acorns drawn in thin contour line, giving designers a small Arts and Crafts alphabet of drop caps and a repeatable oak-and-acorn border motif.
