The considerations of Drexelius upon eternity
Jeremias Drexel's Jesuit meditations on eternity, Englished by Ralph Winterton and reprinted in London in 1716 for a Protestant lay readership of devotional emblem books. Small copperplates pair kneeling penitents and crowned angelic figures on globes with bodies tumbling into flames among serpents, all built from dense parallel hatching that supplies ready-made symbols of heaven, hell and judgement.
