Constructive features of the American locomotive
A 1906 engineering thesis by Victor Emmanuel Hulteen on the construction of American locomotives, submitted at the University of Illinois and read by faculty examiners and fellow mechanical engineering students. The plates are hand-inked line drawings tipped onto pages of cursive manuscript, showing sectional and plan views of cylinders, valve gear, bolted frame joints and wheel trucks in thin outline with hatched cut surfaces, useful as technical linework or as overlays where drawing meets handwriting.
