Contributions from the Lick Observatory

A scientific report series issued by the Lick Observatory in 1889 and printed in Sacramento by authority of the University of California Regents, addressed to working astronomers. The plates are halftone grids of photographs showing the sun's disk flattening and thinning as it nears the horizon, each row captioned with handwritten hour-minute-second times, giving designers a ready vocabulary of white ovals on grainy black tiles and script numerals.
