Costume design and illustration
A 1918 instructional manual on costume design and fashion drawing by Ethel Traphagen, published in New York by John Wiley & Sons for art students and working illustrators. Pen-and-ink figure plates show women in tunic dresses, capes, fur muffs and tall hats, drawn with wiry contour outlines, stippled and hatched fabric pattern, and flat black masses useful as silhouettes.
