The costume of the ancients
A costume reference by the collector and designer Thomas Hope, first issued in 1809 and reprinted in London by Chatto and Windus in 1875 for painters, sculptors and stage designers needing accurate Greek, Roman and Egyptian dress. The plates are pure outline engravings of single standing or seated figures, with drapery folds, meander and palmette borders, headdresses and sandals drawn as unshaded line, ready for tracing, silhouetting or use as stock figure ornament.
