Cotton
Proceedings and technical papers issued around 1900 by the National Association of Cotton Manufacturers, a New England trade body of mill owners and engineers, held by the Smithsonian Libraries. The halftone plates reproduce excavated cloth fragments and stamped bark-cloth sheets, giving high-contrast black shapes with ragged torn edges, fringes, spotted resist-dyed grids and dense geometric borders usable as pattern stock or as textural silhouettes.
