Cottons, linens, woollens, silks. How to buy and judge materials. A useful guide with facts for warehouse, shop and home
A 1914 trade handbook by Henry Brougham Heylin, published by Heywood in Manchester and London, teaching warehouse staff, shopkeepers and household buyers how to judge cotton, linen, wool and silk goods. The plates are close-up halftone photographs of cloth surfaces: twill diagonals, checked and striped weaves, nap and pile, giving designers ready-made monochrome pattern swatches and grainy fabric textures.
