Cretan pictographs and prae-Phoenician script : with an account of a sepulchral deposit at Hagios Onuphrios near Phaestos in its relation to primitive Cretan and Aegean culture
Arthur Evans's 1895 archaeological monograph, published in London and New York by Quaritch and Putnam, records Cretan seal-stones, signs and grave goods for scholars of early Aegean writing and Mycenaean culture. Line drawings show engraved seal faces in rows — figures, animals, ships, spirals and pictographic signs — plus sign tables and pottery profiles, giving designers a stock of compact emblem shapes and invented-looking script marks.
