The cruise of the Hippocampus
A first-person cruising narrative by American yachtsman and writer Alfred F. Loomis, published by the Century Co. in New York in 1922 and aimed at amateur sailors and armchair travellers. The plates are halftone photographs of a small yawl under sail and at anchor: rigging lines against bare sky, crew at the tiller, crowded deck gear, shorelines seen low from the water, all with the coarse grain and flattened greys useful as texture or silhouette source.
