Royal palaces & gardens
A 1916 colour-plate volume from A. & C. Black in London, with watercolours by Mima Nixon and text by Dion Clayton Calthrop, surveying the palace grounds of European royalty for British garden and travel readers. The 59 plates are loosely brushed garden views built from dark tree masses, lit lawns and bands of massed bedding, with autumn orange against deep green and small figures or statues marking the distance: useful for saturated seasonal palettes, silhouetted foliage shapes and landscape framing.
