The charm of gardens
An appreciative essay on English gardens by Dion Clayton Calthrop, issued in London by A. & C. Black in 1910 as one of their colour-plate gift books for general readers. The plates are three-colour reproductions of loose watercolours: massed herbaceous borders, brick steps and walls, pergolas, blossoming and autumn trees, and hazy distant fields, useful for stippled flower-bed colour, painterly garden backgrounds and soft period landscape texture.
