Airships in peace & war, being the second edition of Aerial warfare;

Hearne, R. P, Maxim, Hiram Stevens, Sir, 1840-1916 · 1910 · London, J. Lane; New York, J. Lane Company · 12 pictures

A 1910 survey of dirigibles and early aeroplanes as military tools, written by R. P. Hearne with an introduction by Hiram Maxim and issued in London and New York by John Lane as the second edition of Aerial Warfare, aimed at general readers and service officers. Halftone photographs show machines on open ground among crowds of handlers, while line and wash cutaways label envelopes, gondolas, propellers and control surfaces with hairline leaders and small-caps captions — useful for annotated-diagram layouts and early aviation silhouettes.
