Peruvian art; a help for students of design
A 1917 handbook by Charles W. Mead, a curator at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, breaking down ancient Peruvian textile and pottery ornament into teachable motifs for art and design students. The plates are numbered line drawings in solid black and white—stepped frets, bird, fish and feline figures reduced to angular geometry, plus dense woven-pattern fields—usable as repeat tiles, borders, pictograph-style symbols and high-contrast silhouettes.
