Dutch painters of the nineteenth century. With biographical notices
A survey of nineteenth-century Dutch painting edited by Max Rooses, with biographical notices, issued in English by Sampson Low, Marston in London in 1898 for art collectors and general readers. The plates are halftone reproductions of paintings, watercolours and drawings: polder landscapes under heavy cloud, cattle at water, thatched cottages, beaches with fisherfolk and boats, useful for soft tonal skies and grey atmospheric backdrops.
