Stories of the German artists
A popular survey of German painting written by Hans Wolfgang Singer and published in London by Chatto and Windus in 1911 for English general readers. The plates are colour reproductions of panel paintings from Cranach, Schongauer, Holbein and Grünewald, offering jewelled headdresses, heavy red and black drapery, gold brocade vestments and dark green or brown grounds useful as colour palettes and costume reference.
