A one-volume survey of Western art history by Julia B. De Forest, revised by Charles H. Caffin and issued by Dodd, Mead in New York in 1913 for general readers and students. The 345 plates are coarse-screen halftone reproductions of paintings, frescoes and sculpture — peasant genre scenes, crowded town squares, arched Annunciation lunettes, cavalry mêlées — with heavy blacks and soft grey mid-tones useful as grainy monochrome source material.
