The prospects for building construction in American cities
A 1922 statistical report on urban building activity by Leonard P. Ayres, issued in Cleveland by the Cleveland Trust Company for bankers, builders, and business forecasters. Its plates are heavy solid-black bar charts with hand-lettered numerals over thin ruled grids, dashed trend lines, and grids of small line graphs whose shortage and surplus areas are filled with diagonal hatching — usable as stark chart forms, hatched fills, and drafted number lettering.
