The cathedral builders in England
Edward S. Prior's 1905 account of medieval English cathedral building and its craftsmen, issued in London by Seeley and in New York by E. P. Dutton for general readers of architectural history. Colour plates reproduce English illuminated manuscripts: a historiated initial with a crowd of crowned and tonsured heads, trumpeting angels over red diaper grounds, and Christ enthroned in a quatrefoil frame with evangelist beasts and inscribed scrolls.
