From forecastle to Academy, sailor and artist; autobiography
Autobiography of Lars Gustaf Sellstedt, the Swedish-born sailor who became a Buffalo portrait painter and academy founder, printed by the Matthews-Northrup Works in 1904 for local readers and fellow artists. Color plates reproduce his oil portraits: half-length sitters against dark brown grounds, white lace caps and stocks, and a self-portrait at the easel with loaded palette.
