City improvement from the artistic standpoint. An address
An address on municipal art and city planning delivered by architect John Merven Carrère and printed in Hartford in 1908 for a civic improvement society. Halftone photographs show Paris parks, boulevards and palace facades from raised viewpoints: the Palais-Royal arcades with a bandstand, clipped avenues of tubbed trees, a carved stone urn, and traffic on the Champs-Élysées, useful for aerial street perspective and formal garden geometry.
