The painters of Florence from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century

Ady, Julia Mary Cartwright, d. 1924 · 1901 · New York, E. P. Dutton & Co. · 19 pictures

A survey of Florentine painting from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century, written by Julia Cartwright Ady and published in New York by E. P. Dutton in 1901 for general readers and students of Italian art. The plates are halftone reproductions of frescoes and panel paintings: enthroned Madonnas under arcades, standing saints with incised halos, a Nativity set in a wooded landscape, all rendered in soft grey tones with visible paint cracks and architectural framing that can be lifted as borders, figure silhouettes or textured backgrounds.
