The art of the Vatican; a brief history of the palace, and an account of the principal works of art within its walls
A 1903 handbook to the Vatican palace and its collections, written by the American art writer Mary Knight Potter and published in London by G. Bell for travellers and students. Its plates are dark halftone photographs of frescoes and tapestries — Raphael's Stanze, the Sistine ceiling, the Borgo fire — yielding crowded figure groups, borders, roundels, and heavy tonal masses.
