Holme, Charles, 1848-1923, Baldry, A. L. (Alfred Lys), 1858-1939 · 1907 · London, Paris, New York, Offices of "The Studio" · 40 pictures

A 1907 special number of The Studio surveying the Royal Scottish Academy, edited by Charles Holme with text by A. L. Baldry and issued from the magazine's London, Paris and New York offices for collectors and readers of contemporary art. The plates reproduce Scottish paintings in tipped-in colour and halftone: misty moor and coast views, cliff faces, wooded gorges and near-black night scenes where a thin band of pale sky carries the whole image, useful for muted earth palettes and high-contrast tonal backgrounds.
